Claim 2025 as a year of nurses.
As everybody counts the days before another calendar year comes, this new year must be a celebration of the triumph and legacy of all the hardworking nurses for the year 2024 globally and a fresh off start for the upcoming year, 2025. What a cool way to start another year with a new set of targets, just like how everybody usually starts a year, but this time, it is much more directed towards your profession.
Nurses’ schedules are always manipulated by holidays. This may lead to less time crafting life and professional goals. However, it does not limit the nurses from celebrating and joining holiday trends. As everybody counts the days before another calendar year comes, setting intentions for self-improvement is essential to welcome another year with smart goals.
Here are some essential points for the nursing profession that nurses are encouraged to find inspiration.
Be fit and healthy.
One cannot give what they do not have. There are health detriments to every profession and unfortunately, diet and sleep/rest are common challenges to nurses due to tight time schedules and erratic shifts. This resolution is non-negotiable. It is always a priority to invest in one’s health. More so, if you are in a nursing field.
Eat healthy and never skip a meal. Sweat it out. Rest. Repeat.
Work-Life Balance.
Boundaries between life outside of work and work are necessary. Try to find something good in each shift. On rest days, build a life outside of work.
- Form a new habit.
- Set up a revitalizing after-work routine.
- Indulge yourself.
- Get out of your room.
- Try to avoid 4 consecutive work days if you cannot help it.
Get organized.
Since it’s that new year, it is engaging to restart and reset. So this is the chance to reorganize everything. Plan the entire shift ahead. Make a to-do list so you do not cram and slip on necessary things or create a brain diagram that you can glance at. This will reward you later on. It reduces work stress and boosts productivity.
Professional Growth and Development.
Continuing nursing education by attending timely and relevant seminars and refreshment courses for this field is a lifelong process of learning and improvement. Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives organized by hospitals, agencies, and organizations.
Learn Meditation.
If the body requires exercise, the mind needs it too. Meditation is an exercise of the brain where it reorganizes everything. It focuses on different things inside the brain and lets go of what is not needed. This is important for rearrangement and disposal of thoughts. It eases the heaviness inside the mind for better functioning. Additionally, nurses are very prone to distractions. One benefit of meditation is it releases pressure inside which leads to better focus and sharpness. Both are essential in this field of work to minimize errors
Celebrate your wins, big or small.
Celebrating success has a positive impact on motivation and productivity. One tip to celebrate your win is to think about it regularly. It will surely make you happy, even the smallest wins will increase your endorphins if it lingers in your brain. Nurses are humans that need recognition and reward. Be creative in regarding yourself. It does not need to be extravagant or expensive but make sure that it will make you happy.
Stay away from negativities.
Pessimistic people have a problem for every solution and optimistic people have solutions to every problem. Now, who will you surround yourself with? In every workplace, there will always be supportive and doubtful people and it is now up to you who you are willing to influence your shift. The things you allow will dictate your entire shift. Staying away from negativity regains your positive outlook in life or work. Which will then help you to decide better during difficult times.
Automate saving and investing.
Nurses are known to be paid less considering the amount of physical and mental work we do. We are asked to be superhuman during work yet the compensation does not equate to our scope of work. Hence, saving and investing must be one of our New Year’s resolutions. This does not limit living a full life but living below your daily means will build financial freedom for you. There are a lot of saving techniques nowadays that will help you get your way to your target financial state.
Always start now.
They say “The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago, the next best time is now” and to keep up with technology and everything happening right now, nurses must be updated with the nursing trends.
Balance of everything in life. Private world, relationships, personal time, and professional growth must be in an equilibrium state for you to feel accomplished. New Year’s resolutions are just a motivation to keep you up with this. You should start this by being proud of yourself and what you have accomplished this 2024. Hence, everything will follow. You should also keep in mind that your personalized New Year’s resolution must be achievable in the first place, in accordance with your own capacity in life. Yes, it is okay to dream but the parameters of a goal are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound). One is not advised to demote goals but rather adhere to these parameters.
Goals and resolutions deserve simplicity and flexibility and they must be individualized. Be smart in making the list for next year to have a higher success rate. Nursing is a field of infinite opportunities and possibilities. Achieving goals by creating and pursuing them will expand the horizon of the entire nursing field.
